How to Complete a Task and Stop Tracking It

This guide explains how to mark a task as “Complete.” Completing a task is an administrative action that closes it and prevents employees from tracking any more time against it. You can complete a task for all assigned employees at once or for specific individuals, depending on your needs.

Important Prerequisite: To perform these actions, your user role must have the “Complete/restore task for all users” permission enabled. An administrator can configure this by navigating to Settings > Roles and editing the appropriate role.

Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Go to Projects & Tasks in the main sidebar -> Select Tasks.
  2. Locate the task you wish to close in the task list.
  3. Click the Actions dropdown menu on the right side of the task row.
    • Select “Complete for all users.” The task will now be closed and unavailable for time tracking for all associated employees.
    • Select “Select Users to Complete/Reopen Task.”
A modal window will appear, listing all employees currently assigned to the task. Click the Complete button or select the boxes next to the name of each employee for whom you want to close the task.

Note: the same logic can be used to Restore a completed task for all employees or for the specific ones.
